COVID 19: WHO WILL BE THE FINISHER

In dealing with COVID19 pandemic, some Ulama or Islamic Scholars rely on Allah SWT’s Words in the Holy Quran Chapter An-Nahl verse 43:

‎وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ إِلَّا رِجَالٗا نُّوحِيٓ إِلَيۡهِمۡۖ فَسۡـَٔلُوٓاْ أَهۡلَ ٱلذِّكۡرِ إِن كُنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ
“And We sent not before you except men to whom We revealed [Our message]. So ask the people of the message (AHLAL-ZIKRI) if you do not know”

For them AHLAL-ZIKRI in the issue of COVID19 are Scientists and Medical experts particularly those in the field of vaccine. They also referred to WHO in handling the pandemic.
It can’t be denied the AHLAL-ZIKR mentioned in the above verse in general means those who are experts in their own respective field of knowledge.  As an example, if we wish to farm then we refer to agricultural experts to get the best result, and the same with fishery and other areas.

Who is the AHLAL ZIKRI in the issue of covid-19 vaccine, for this expert is a person with certainty and confidence in making decisions related to the issue.  As for the vaccine, it is well known that the experts in this field have different opinions about the effectiveness of the vaccines produced because these are still in trial and testing stage. In fact, some experts believe several vaccines are not 100% safe due to numerous side effects that could sometimes lead to death as confirmed in certain countries.

What this means is the effectiveness of COVID19 vaccines is still questionable and doubtful.  As such, no experts from vaccines field can be called and regarded as AHLAL-ZIKRI for they are still uncertain about the effectiveness of COVID19 vaccines.  In the Verse 43 above, we are required to ask AHLAL ZIKRI about things we know not.  The question is if there is no AHLAL-ZIKRI for COVID19 vaccines, then to which AHLAL-ZIKIR did the Ulama refer to in issuing Fatwa proclaiming the usage of the vaccine is safe and effective in dealing with Covid-19 so much so the public is encouraged to take it?

This implies the Ulama have made the fatwa based on ambiguity matters or Syubhah where clearly it is not allowed in Islam for the Holy Prophet PBUH had mentioned we should avoid any Syubhah matters as stated in a hadith narrated by Nukman bin Basyir RA where the Holy Prophet PBUH said : "Verily, the lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which many people do not know. Thus, he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honor, and he who falls into doubtful matters will fall into the unlawful..”

If administering Covid-19 vaccine is regarded as our effort and endeavor to deal with Covid-19, then it is wrong because effort and endeavor are only for matters of benefit such as medicines; not on matters that may cause harm or danger such as taking Covid-19 vaccine. This is suicidal.  Therefore if people become disabled or die due to COVID19 vaccines, the Ulama or Islamic Scholars and leaders shall be accountable before Allah SWT on the Day of Judgment.

Who is the AHLAL ZIKRI meant in Chapter An-Nahl verse 43 and also Chapter Al-Anbiya verse 7? There are various interpretations by the Ulama on who are the AHLAL-ZIKRI in these two verses.  According to Ibnu Abbas RA, AHLUL-ZIKR are AHLUL-QURAN, ones that have in-depth knowledge on the contents of Holy Quran.  Some say AHLAL ZIKRI are Allah SWT’s Wali or Saints and Ulama with the utmost fear to Allah SWT in their hearts.  Not only His Saints and Ulama, any one person who has the faith and utmost fear of Allah SWT is also Ahlal Zikr – Habib Muhammad Luthfi Yahya. Meaning, if we need to raise any question, ask the knowledgeable ones who has the faith and fear of Allah SWT, not just the ones with the expertise. If what is meant here by the experts other than ulamas, their knowledge may only be limited to their field of expertise.

In this case, the ulamas must follow prophet Musa AS, as stated in Chapter 18 Al Kahfi, as a prime example. Prophet Musa As had believed that he was the most knowledgeable at the time, and Allah SWT reminded him to see Prophet Khidr AS, who is more knowledgeable.

From the story of his arduous journey in his quest to learn and seek knowledge from Prophet Khidr AS, Prophet Moses AS went through 3 scenarios, which is and indicator of 3 stages of knowledge i.e.

FIRST SCENARIO : In the country, their tyrannical king would seize perfectly built boats. Hence to avoid a boat belonging to a poor citizen from being taken, Prophet Khidr AS had caused damage to their boat so that the boat which was used by the poor citizen would not be forcibly taken by the king. And so the poor man and his boat were saved.  This level of knowledge is the external (zahir) or Syariat, which is real through the eyes.

SECOND SCENARIO: Prophet Khidr AS had killed a boy who had not reached puberty because he was worried the child would later force his believing parents to become disbelievers and Prophet Khidr AS had hoped Allah SWT would replace their loss with a better and righteous child.  Killing the child has 2 benefits, both the parents were safe from becoming infidels and secondly, the boy himself died before puberty and hence without sin. KNOWLEDGE of this level is the knowledge of the REALITY or HAKIKAT attained by people with Thariqat because they have ‘Basyirah’ or ‘inner eye’ to know what lies in the future.

THIRD SCENARIO: Prophet Khidr AS had repaired the walls of a house belonging to 2 orphans so that the property left by their father was preserved and saved. He had done this for ALLAH SWT wanted the orphans to grow up and for them to discover the property later as a form of gifts and blessings from ALLAH TAALA. This level of KNOWLEDGE is the highest. Those who have attained it are those who have reached Allah SWT i.e. achieving the Divine Cognizance or knowledge of Makrifatullah.  At this level, whatever they do it is not for his own wish but only for the wish of ALLAH SWT alone.

In this context it is clear the Ulama who are experts in the Shariat should refer to AHLULLAH i.e. those who are close to Allah SWT because their knowledge is not only in Shariat but also they have been bestowed with knowledge of unseen things or Ghaib. Just as Allah SWT commanded Prophet Musa AS to ask and seek knowledge from Prophet Khidr AS because Prophet Khidr AS was bestowed with Laduni (the divinely-inspired) knowledge.

In dealing with the problem of Covid-19, by right the Ulama who are experts in Syariat should follow the footsteps of Prophet Musa AS which is to ask AHLAL ZIKRI, i.e. AHLULLAH.  This is because Covid-19 has no AHLAL-ZIKRI from Syariat (Zahir) perspective. Why haven’t the Ulama taken this step? As what Allah SWT had recommended to Prophet Moses AS?

FOR us this is the time ALLAH TAALA will show the AHLAL ZIKRI with MAKRIFATULLAH to raise and glorify the Truth of Islam with the help of His Army, COVID19.  This is for the salvation of all His creatures from all problems and fears in this world and the hereafter. TOGETHER WE SHALL WAIT FOR THE EMERGENCE OF THE SAVIOUR AND THE FINISHER OF COVID19, A GOD’S APPOINTMENT.

‎وَأَنِيبُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمۡ وَأَسۡلِمُواْ لَهُۥ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن يَأۡتِيَكُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ ثُمَّ لَا تُنصَرُونَ
And return to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes to you, then you will not be helped.
